Stave churches are medieval wooden churches that once existed across Northern Europe. Today, it is only in Norway’s wild and beautiful landscape that they have survived from the Middle Ages to the present day.
They represent some of the finest examples of wooden construction in the world and stand as a cornerstone of Norwegian cultural heritage. Each church bears witness to exceptional craftsmanship, artistry, and a deep devotion to both faith and tradition.
Once, there were over a thousand stave churches. Now, only 28 remain. Each one carries centuries of history, belief, and craftsmanship, worthy of preservation for generations to come.
