Today, only 28 medieval stave churches remain in Norway.  All of them are well worth a visit.  Some have many visitors, some relatively few.  The latter we call our hidden pearls.

If you want to visit them, you have to be prepared to drive the extra mile. They   are usually situated some distance away from our main roads, and maybe you even have to take a boat or a ferry to get there. With the right preparations, however, you can visit them and you certainly will be awarded for your efforts.  Knowledgeable guides, time to study the incredible details, the smell of wood-tar. Peace and quiet.
